Our office in Niagara Falls, ON, is looking for a Purchasing Agent to join our team.
Summary of the Role
Reporting to the Corporate Purchasing Manager, the Purchasing Agent is responsible for the timely, compliant and commercially effective procurement of materials, equipment, assemblies, tools and subcontracted services in support of construction projects. This role manages both routine and complex procurement activities and applies advanced supply chain and purchasing principles to deliver best value while managing risk and maintaining a competitive advantage for the Company.
The Purchasing Agent works closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure procurement activities align with technical, quality, safety, schedule and commercial requirements throughout the full purchase order lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Strategy & Execution
- Review and interpret technical, quality, safety, schedule and commercial requirements (including cost, warranty, contractual and legal terms) for assigned procurement activities.
- Develop procurement strategies where required or execute established strategies to meet project and company objectives.
- Prepare and issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to qualified suppliers in accordance with company procedures, project requirements and applicable procurement strategies.
Supplier Sourcing, Evaluation & Negotiation
- Review, analyze and assess supplier quotations; negotiate pricing, terms and conditions to achieve best overall value.
- Prepare bid evaluations and supporting documentation to justify supplier selection.
- Support the identification, qualification and development of new suppliers, as well as the ongoing improvement of existing supplier relationships.
Purchase Order Management
- Create, issue and administer Purchase Orders in accordance with company policies and project requirements.
- Manage suppliers from Purchase Order award through completion, including schedule adherence and required deliverables such as shop drawings, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and other contractual submittals.
- Monitor supplier performance and proactively address issues related to non-conformance, delays, deficiencies and disputes.
Key Requirements, Experience and Skills
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant procurement or purchasing experience is preferred.
- Proven experience managing multiple, complex Purchase Orders from initiation through closeout.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation or equivalent is a strong asset.
- Experience within a construction or industrial environment is an asset.
- Experience with ERP or procurement systems is an asset.
- Sourcing experience for complex or multi-trade commodities, including build-to-design equipment and subcontracted services, is an asset.
